ST ANDREW’S DAY 30 NOVEMBER 2024 AT 4.30PM GMT 
AUGUSTINE UNITED CHURCH, 41 GEORGE IV BRIDGE, EDINBURGH AND ONLINE 

This will be a hybrid event and will start at 4.30pm GMT and is likely to run to about 7.30/8pm. 

The agenda includes presentations by the Treasurer, Director and President and the results of the election of new Fellows, Trustees and changes to Subscription rates and Society laws.  It will also feature a short talk by Dr Morvern French FSAScot. It is followed by a reception with nibbles. 

 

Short talk presented by Dr Morvern French: "Dirleton Castle Revisited"

Dirleton Castle in East Lothian is known as ‘one of Scotland’s greatest medieval castles’, but its post-medieval, post-habitation history is equally engaging. This paper will reveal the stories behind a recent interpretation project, looking beyond the main building to its grounds and the wider community and incorporating the gardens, antiquarianism, and alleged criminality.

About the speaker:
Morvern works as the Properties Historian for Historic Environment Scotland. She is a late medievalist by education and publication but, through her job, she researches and interprets different eras of Scotland’s history in relation to the HES estate. She is especially interested in women’s and other underrepresented histories. Morvern is also a trustee of the Society for Scottish Medieval and Renaissance Studies and the Scottish Historical Review Trust.
